sigmatel audio problems

well i got my linux up and running today i am dual booting.
i have a sigmatel audio with 5.1 suround sound hooked up i am a newbie to this (just ran linux first time today) and i only hear sound coming from the back left/right speakers and subwoofer is there any way i can get full funtionallity with my surround sound

i am running ubuntu (newest realease) 6.10 i think ..

1. Check that anything is connected fine.
2. Play around with the sliders. Usually there is some muted/lowered that shouldn't be ...

i tried to look for sliders i only had one, i have no clue how to configure this thing i get sound from subwoofer and back left/right but not the frontleft/frontright/front center. i know i have them hooked up right . everything works fine in windows.
