Sierra aircard 880U

Hi,
I've recently been trying to get a 3G modem (Sierra aircard 880U) working with network-manager 0.7 in Ubuntu intrepid. (I can connect with pppd, which I am using to make this post) I've found that hal does not recognize this device as a modem, despite the fact that a number of very similar modems are, including the 880, 880E, 881, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has managed to get this device working with network manager 0.7 yet, or If anyone knows why this particular modem has been left out.
