shift key problem

for some reason, my shift key worked fine the whole time i've had my slackware linux 10.1 installed, however, although i left it on for weeks on end without changing settings or anything, for some reason my shift key is now acting like my control key, sorta. this is why i can't capitalize my letters, and i can't type symbols, like the hash sign or the dollar sign... etc.

i have no idea what is wrong with it, but it's really annoying, especially since i pretty much stay in the command line. i've tried reloading my keymap to see if that would do anything, but it doesn't. i of course use the basic us keymap. even if i load the dvorak keymap, my shift key still acts this way. it's almost as if i have another key stuck, like my alt key or something, but none of my keys are stuck or anything. i've never experienced this problem before, in any os, so i assumed maybe you guys could help. i'm going to try and get another keyboard and plug it in and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

thank guys,

forgiste.

Probably a hardware problem with the keyboard.
It could even be as simple as a chunk of food stuck under a key somewhere, or a stuck ctrl key.

Once I spilled water on my keyboard, and had no j key for a few weeks. I had to cut and paste from existing text files every time :).
