Smile Setting up Freecom DV3 stick

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a Freecom DV3 tuner stick and was wondering if somebody could explain a bit more concisely how to use linuxtv-dvb-apps-1.1.0 to produce the channels.conf file or any other more up to date information that I can use to make the device work.
I managed to locate a posting from a year or more ago from this site that gave a little info on configuration but it only mentions the foresaid application in passing and not how it is implemented. I gather it is used in conjunction with Mplayer though until I sort the conf file out it looks to me like I'm at a dead end unless there is another way that's been implemented more recently anybody knows to make the stick work.
Thanks.
