Setting up CUPS with a print server

Hi there,
I'm trying to set up a printer on my linux box (running Gentoo). The printer is connected to a D-Link Router print server port. The problem is I don't know how to set up CUPS to make it work via the network. I know the print server's ip (192.168.0.1) and port ("lp"), but how exactly do I tell CUPS all this?
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

printers

Hi,
I just finished setting up my printer using suse 10 and my Vigor router.
I just used the YAST setup page in suse and cups itself was already installed.
First thing I did was to install the driver for the printer. My Canon Pixma wasn't supported directly, so I got the turboprint drivers and installed them.

CUPS is referred to several places, but printing to a router queue is actually called LPD. So after installing the driver I added the printer in the hardware page of YAST and selected LPD printing and entered the router IP and the default queue name (p1 in my case, router documentation should say which yours is). Then I selected the printer. This also involves selecting a PPD file. This is a config file, specific for each printer model.

Not sure what the connection with CUPS is, if that is unrelated or the overall network printing architecture on Linux.

Don't know if any of this helps. Good luck though.

Mons
