Setting up a linux router/firewall

Ok, I have an old Compaq Deskpro (I know I know, blech:tisk: ) 486 w/ 16 megs of memory that I'm setting up as a broadband router/firewall. I've got two old ISA NICs in there that I've checked out for linux compatibility that seem like they should work.
I want to use this comp as a project piece, to help me learn more about networking in linux, but I also need it to be functional. Oh btw, this is going to be for a cable connection, if that makes any difference at all.
Now when I got this thing there was no HD. So I got an old 2GB one and stuck it in. Everything seems to be working fine, but because I have no OS on the drive I'm gettin the "non-system disk" deal...
OK so now for my question, I'm planning on using the Linux Router Project http://www.linuxrouter.org since I can run it from a floppy, but is there another project that anyone knows of that's better? Also, what do I need to do as far as a boot disk to get an OS on the drive? This is my first time doing anything like this heh heh, so I'm mostly clueless....

Honestly, pick any distro that will install on 16mb of RAM, nowadays though that's really only Slackware and Debian, go nuts with the install, and then google around for "iptables firewall NAT script" or somesuch. That'll land you a simple firewall script for a 2.4.x kernel that you can monkey with and read up on the man pages for "iptables" on and get some learnin in while having a functional router in place for the house. The downshot of a Linux on a floppy is that all of the man pages, as well as a bunch of simple commands, have been stripped down or ripped out for space... so its really just black box solution.

Cheers,
