I have two computers running linux; one is Fedora Core 6 (Comp 1) and one is PC Linux OS (Comp 2). I didn't want to have two monitors, mice, keyboards so I bought a KVM switch which works well. The only downside is if I boot Comp 1 with the KVM switch set to Comp 1 the desktop screen resolution is okay. If I boot Comp1 with the KVM set to Comp 2, the desktop screen res goes to to 400 x 480 (? can't remember exact res). I suspect since it doesn't see a monitor it goes to the lowest resolution. Is there a way to force the desktop resolution on boot? FC6 uses grub and PCL uses Lilo.

You should be able to set the default resolution in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Which brand and model of KVM are you using? (For my personal edification. This is not part of my answer to your question.)

I think if you set the "NoDDC" option in xorg.conf then it won't probe for your monitor and try to grab EDID info that would be nonexistent, and simply use the values you supply. Of course you would have to supply valid values for HorizSync, VertRefresh and such.

I'm using the Airlink 101 USB with audio. Cost is 30 bucks.
