Set up Plantronics Audio 550 USB Headset in Ubuntu Feisty

I own a Plantronics Audio 550 USB Headset. I have recently installed Ubuntu Feisty onto my computer after my copy of XP gave the ghost. But, I can't get any sound out of it, except for the test beep in the Sound preferences window. I also can't get the microphone working. What can I do to fix this problem? I need to know ASAP. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't give you a definitive answer, but here's some things to try:

Plug the headset into the PC and run command 'dmesg' in a console window. Check last few lines to see if hardware is recorgnised or drivers loaded.

Run 'alsamixer' in a console and check channels are unmuted/turned up. Can you output sound through regular speakers?

Run 'alsaconf' in a console (you need to be root) and see if it can figure out what is happening.
