serial port not working.
 
Hi everyone,

First of all thank for viewing my thread and me now is facing a serial port problem on redhat 2.1 AS. Basically i using the serial port for my APC but the problem is that the two of them unable to communicate for each other. So i did a test on my APC on other server everything fine. just to check with u all guys out there, how to verify my serial port is working a not?

1)
Check BIOS to see if ports are enabled.
2)
Create a little loopback device (subD with pin 2 and pin 3 connected to each other) and use minicom to check if you can see communication.
If hardware handshaking is required by the APC, and you want to simulate it with the loopback device, short the required pins, enable handshake in minicom and check if it works.

With the loopback device, anything you type should show (if local echo is on even twice).
