Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

seek errorss

I have a Benq DVD burner with gives frequently gives seek errors when used with linux however it works OK with Windows, ie windows can read a DVD which linux cannot (same DVD).
This must be a driver problem since the hardware is th same.
Is there any workaround possible to solve this?
Perhaps a 'force' or 'ignore errors' setting somewhere?
System is Debian sid.

log in as "root"

#hdparm

if unmaskirq is enabled, diabled it

if dma in on, it might help to disabled dma.

unmaskirq is off; dma is on but turning it off makes no difference.
Thanks for the reply though. Perhaps the answer is in hdparm settings, will try a few.
