SCSI Scanner Hotplug Question

I have a question for those of you experienced with external SCSI gear. Is it allowable to hotplug external scsi (in this case a wide ultra-scsi scanner) under Linux? (I run 2.6.7.)

No, unless you have a hotplug chassis and a compatable controller. I've read that others do with the aid of a SCSI rescan utility but IMHO I would not recommend it.
