Scroll Wheel/ hotkeys on keyboard

I use a micro innovations web office pro keyboard (the $20 one at walmart) and I've gotten many of the additional keys on the keyboard to work (i.e music controls etc) however for many of them i have no idea where to start assigning extra keys functions (like making the calculator button bring up the calculator) and i've also noticed the same commands (i.e Super_L etc) is assigned to multiple keys, and finally the scroll wheel that is on the side of the keyboard will not work, it doesn't show anything on xev when i turn the wheel and i havent been able to find anywhere describing how to make it work, any help or helpful links would be awesome
