scroll not working on slackware 10

hi there

i am trying out slackware 10 for the first time and i am facing these problems

1) the scroll is not working from my mercury optical mouse. How do i set up my mouse?

2)whenever i run startx slackware directly logs on to kde, what should i do so that it shows me a desktop manager so that i can log on to a wm of my choice?

thnx in advance

You have a choice. Either edit your etc/inittab file to start with graphical boot or, just after logging in, run xwmconfig and choose your desktop there.

As for the scroll on your mouse, add this line to your xorg.conf file in the Mouse section
Code:

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
This is a common issue and there are many threads about it. It would be nice if this were just done automatically though, that's for sure. Fortunately it's a easy fix. -- J.W.
