Screen Resolution Problem (Details included)

Hi Everyone.

My current Flat Panel LCD Monitor is a ViewSonic VA1912wb connected to my Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX through DVI Connection. (Monitor Info here thanks to aysiu. )

My problem is: I switched to my LCD's recommended resolution of 1440x900, but the screen scrolls, GNOME does not fit on the screen, I need to drag my mouse down in order to scroll the screen to see my task bar, for instance.

The 1440x900 resolution allows me to see very clearly, I like this, is there anyway to shrink the height of the space down, and not squish my resolution at the same time? I think there may have been something called a virtual resolution or something of the sort.

I will include my Xorg.conf file, if there is any other information needed that could help you help me, I'll provide it. :) I thank you for listening.

Code:

# values from the debconf database.

# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)

The Remedy
It seems the problem wasn't in X, but in the way that GNOME automatically made the resolution set to 1440x1024. All I needed to do was go to System > Preferences > Screen Resolution and select.

Thanks you guys! :)

I believe that GNOME has it's own resolution settings. I'm not on a linux computer right now with GNOME so I can't be sure. I know I've run into this problem before and it required me to change to the resolution in the Xorg.conf file and in the GNOME settings. I hope this helps!
