Screen Flicker, new install of RH9

Just loaded RH 9 on a 1997 vintage computer: Windows ME on 1st hard drive, RH 9 on 2nd hard drive. The install seems to have gone fine but for one item: flicker on my screen.

I'm using a 1 year old Samsung Syncmaster 17" on the original ('97) Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 Adapter, s3virge driver. In Windows I had some problems with screen corruption when I installed this monitor, but resolved it by changing the refresh rate on the display settings, adapter (not monitor) tab from 85 to 75. I can find no way to make a similar change in Linux. Yes, I can change the horizontal and vertical refresh rates. These are correct according to the Samsung documentation. These same rates show up on the monitor tab in Windows display settings. Even so, I have scaled them both down and up in Linux (This is a multisync monitor), with no visible results. I'm out of ideas. I notice there is the possibility of adding more options to the adapter card, but I don't know what these are or where I can find this information. Trust me, I have looked.

Resolved my own problem. By chance I stumbled onto the answer in a Google search. The Diamond Stealth Card doesn't support any refresh rate in the 24 bit color mode, but the installation set my color depth to 24 bit. I dropped it down and the flicker ended.
