Scanner won't work on Epson SX515W

I have just treated myself to a nice new printer, an Epson SX515W three-in-one device.

I have used Epson three in one devices before and usually the scanner works fine but the printer takes ages to set up. This time the printer set-up took about three minutes (including the test page) but the scanner wont play.

Sane seems to detect it alright but if I run it I get this error:

Failed to open device 'epkowa:usb:008:008': Invalid argument.

Running from konsole gives:
Code:
xsane
libusb couldn't open USB device /dev/bus/usb/008/008: Permission denied.
libusb requires write access to USB device nodes
Something simple?

Hi, first off, an ugly test : try runnin xsane as root. Ff it works, check that you're in all the necessary groups to access usb devices (maybe there is a "scanner" group?)

If I run xsane as root it works. There does not seem to be a scanner group and i can't see what others groups might be relevant. The printer and other USB connected devices work.
