SB live 24 bit and ubuntu

I have just installed Ubuntu Hoary on my 1.8 GHz desktop. System has WinXP and is working fine as dual-boot. Problem is no sound comes out of speakers, sound card is Creative SB Live 24 bit PCI. Looked for the /sbin/lspci folder and it is not showing up. Am looking for hopefully easy way to remedy this situation. Sound card works fine when running XP. Thanks.

try alsaconf

Perhaps running the command alsaconf will work.

I know this is going to sound ignorant, but exactly where do you type in that command? I can't find a "run" dialog like in Windows.

In a terminal window.
Look under Xshells, or maybe an icon in kde toolbar that says Konsole, in apps list, should see something like xterm eterm etc etc or just hit ctrl+alt+F1 and login there if need be.Like a dos prompt in windows. You can even just type "lspci" at the shell prompt and get the output of it.

May want to read up a bit in linux.
