SB AWE64 ISA and ATI AIW 128

Hi All!

About two weeks ago I managed to install Ubuntu Breezy Badger and almost every OS has a problem with detecting this sound card.

I found a solution in these forums and I get sound after typing in the following commands:

sudo -s
modprobe snd-sbawe;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;
modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss

The above commands work, but after every boot I need to retype them. I know I could add this to startup scripts, but is there any way to make this permanent?

Additionally, I installed the GATOS package and I connected my DVD player to my ATI card. Now, xatitv works - but without sound! So I get to watch silent DVDs Does anyone know how I can solve this?

All responses will be appreciated.

Paul

I'm not sure that making it "permanent" (i. e. compiling what you now have as modules into the kernel, so the support is "natively / permanently" "there). I tried this exact approach when compiling my new 2.6.14.3 kernel on FC3, and all sound support I had had (which was working fine under FC3 with the 2.6.12 kernel, where the sound modules were left as modules) dissappeared. I had to make sure that the kernel modules -remained- kernel modules (as regards sound) in order to get met SBLive 5.1 working again with the new kernel.

I propose thus that to make your driver presence "permanent", simply put the module insertions into /etc/rc.local (at least on FC3 that is the file you should put them in).

As four your other issue, don't you need to run a seperate audio cable to your TV / monitor in order to get sound (yeah, you have video due to the connection made already) but I assume you need a seperate cable to get sound off the soundcard into the TV? (Never tried what you did myself...)

Regards,
