SB Audigy Platinum

Hello,

I'm sure this thread has been done before, but I looked and couldn't find anything. (Sorry if I'm a nuisance) I'm trying to get sound working with Redhat 9.0 2.4.20-8. I downloaded the stuff at opensource.creative and tried to get it to work, but I'm a new linux user so I can do about as much as a bucket of paint.

As requested, here's the lspci

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV25 [GeForce4 Ti 4600] (rev a3)

Everything else is going well. Linux seems to be pretty versatile (and configurable) I just need to get down the basics.

In advance, thanks for the help.

also...

an odd thing:

in redhat 9.0 there's a sound card detection utility under system settings.
when I click on 'play test sound' I hear a guitar strumming pretty clear. does this mean that linux supports my sound card, and that I just don't have it configured correctly?

Yes, that means your sound card already has a driver operating, most likely without anything else to do for hardware setup. Check your volume settings, it may always start with the volumes on 0. mp3s will play through the PCM channel, and also be effected by the Main channel.

menu -> sound & video -> volume control

gnome-volume-control (for gnome)
kmix (for kde)
