The sata model is pretty new, so there aren't a lot of reports on it
yet. We would expect the community to have info posted on the newsgroups
long before any of that info gets back to Plextor.
Plextor doesn't test with various linux distributions at all, since it's
a very small fraction of the marketplace. I don't know of any DVD drive
manufacturer that does test with linux distributions at this point. We
do provide drives to various developers of linux software for their
testing, though. Since Plextor drives follow accepted standards, there
should be no problem with any existing software supporting them. We do
investigate bug reports from linux/unix software mfgrs and assist them
in debugging.

Jack,
First of all, thanks for getting back to me.

I've checked, that's why I'm asking you. Surely the Plextor customer=20
base includes a fair number of *nix (UNIX, Linux, *BSD, OS X)=20
installations. Does Plextor not check compatibility with common computer
setups?
I'd thought of Plextor as an enterprise-level storage company. I aim to=20
find out what Plextor has done to test for compatibility with a common=20
enterprise-level Linux Distribution. For example, Redhat Enterprise=20
Linux is widely used in this market sector.
My continued business with Plextor relies on being able to use the=20
products I buy. If you know it works on some form of Linux setup, I=20
want to know roughly the setup (name and version for the Linux distro=20
used, any additional configuration options like the kernel ".config") so
I can go find out how to make it work, and spread those changes to the=20
Gentoo Linux community I volunteer for as a developer.
