Hello All.
Some times ago I had read documentation about sata. I found that for best performance it is better to use AHCI and disk that will support NCQ.
So, I’ve get “WD740GD” - Western Digital Raptor with TCQ and
Intel 915G motherboard. This motherboard is support Intel® Matrix Storage Technology with ICH6R or RW witch use AHCI with Native Command Queuing .
I had checked Garzik's linux main page for driver support and found that AHCI is supported by kernel (I’ve tried to do that configuration under kernel 2.4.29).
However then I boot with “AHCI SATA support” I’ve get – kernel panic instead of situation then I use “Intel PIIX/ICH”. Therefore I can’t get TCQ/NCQ support

.
So, As I understood:
1) Kernel is support AHCI
2) AHCI is support NCQ
3) Motherboard is support AHCI
4) Disk is support NCQ
This must work, however I just got simple SATA support without NCQ

.
Do I need somthing special to have AHCI support under i915G chipset?
Does AHCI work under i915G or i have misunderstanding?
Could somebody clarify me my misunderstanding …
Thx.
Banga.
