Sata 3 SSD vs PCI-E SSD (DELL 5520 laptop)

Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 i7/IvyBridge laptop 8GB Ram (dual boot)
Windows 10/Ubuntu 14.04-Gnome 2
MBR Boot with GRUB 2
BIOS capable of UEFI or Legacy boot

I want to upgrade my HDD with an SSD. I can either replace the SATA 3 HDD with an SSD; or I can use the internal PCI-E (v2) bus. I believe both are rated at ~550MBs; however SATA 3 is half duplex, while PCI-E is full duplex. Will the performance be the same either way, or will the full duplex bus deliver noticebly better performance? Also, if I go with the PCI-E option, how fast a drive will I actually need to take advantage of 'any' performance advantage?

There are many other things to consider. The first is complexity. To add an mSata SSD to the PCI express bus, I will need to completely dissassemble the lappie. I really only want to do this once, if at all. Also, when my lappie becomes eol, I will probably want to take the unit apart again to recover the SSD. If I stick with a SATA 3 SSD, I'll only have to remove the drive bay cover and the caddy screws to recover it. I usually b/u the entire system by cloning to another drive. To do this for a PCI-E drive, I suspect I'll have to purchase an extra DVD-ROM caddy to physically mount the target drive. I don't see any way around this (Assumming it will even work in the first place). The next thing to consider is what to do about the BIOS. I will probably want to continue using my dual-boot setup on the SATA interface, while building a more current dual-boot setup on the PCI-E SSD. Will I have to reconfigure the boot order to switch between them, or is this something GRUB will recognize and provide boot options for? Also, can I clone from my SATA drive to the PCI-E drive and the reverse? My BIOS can be configured for UEFI boot or Legacy boot. I'm currently using Legacy boot. Can I clone an MBR system to a PCI-E SSD? Will I have to reinstall GRUB on the target drive?

Then check, if this PCIe SSD is supported.
The SATA one will work as normal harddisc.

You can do a search with PCIe ssd under linux with goooooogle.

Some of these systems won't actually allow you to access the uefi devices and one of them may be that pci-e ssd.

The price on many of the M.2 versus internal S3 are almost exactly the same price.
