sane backend wanted

I have a usb scanner by Canon, Inc., model CanoScan FB620U, but according to sane.org there is no support for my scanner, which I've researched and found it's one of the most popular scanners on the market or at least it was awhile back. Sane doesn't have an eta of if or when they will have a driver for the scanner. They say you can code your own if you *gasp* disasemble your scanner and find out what chipset it has. According to sane.org Canon isn't playing fair with the Open Source community at all and could care less about sane, etc.

So anyway... anyone already hack their scanner and write a backend for the FB620U?

And if not, anyone ever make their own backend for their scanner from one of the sane usb scanner drivers listed on sane.org?
