Recently I have bought Samsung SyncMaster 172N (Flat Screen) monitor. It works fine with XP but when I switched into SUSE it says the "video mode is not supported". I have no idea what to do. I would greatly appreciate if someone can help me out.

In the configuration, try a lower resolution, it may be defaulting to something higher than the monitor can handle?

Just a side note, I had Fedora core 2 installed and everything basically worked, but I screwed some stuff up and I didn't like some of the bugs so I went and bought Suse 9.1 and installed it. SuSE comes with a great tool called SaX2, so all you should have to do is login as your root user or su from your regular user.

I assume that this error mentioned above dumps you back to console? If so, type (as root) init 3 and then type sax2 (still from root).

From there, follow the prompts (an app will launch giving you several options to get your setup working)

Final step is to 'test' the X server and verify that everything is displayed as expected and voila!

I have found the solution to the above problem by myself. In fact the problem was not only due to the flat screen monitor but also due to my graphic card. I have been using Creative 9200SE and this was not compatible with Samsung SyncMaster 172N. After I realised that I have exchanged it with a different graphic card and now it works fine. So if somebody wants to have the combination of Creative 9200SE Graphic card and Samsung SyncMaster 172n be aware that the booting could be problematic (i only had the problem with SuSE9.0 and Mandrake9.2).
