Samsung printer driver and runaway gutenprint compilation
Hi,
I have an old box with a kernel 2.4 and gcc 3.3.4 and 500 M of memory and I am trying to install a new Samsung ML printer locally without upgrading the whole system.
I used to use gutenprint 5.0 for my old printer which was good enough. Gutenprint compilation uses an incredible lot of memory, even with dependency tracking and nls disabled. The virtual memory use goes up to over 800 M very quickly when on the print-escp2 code. I cannot compile 5.2 on my system.
I wonder, how can I easily exclude all the printer drivers but the Samsung ones from compiling in gutenprint ? And why is the memory use going up so fast for such a modest-sized package, is my gcc of the gutenprint makefile buggy ?
Thanx for any tips on this.
Later edit:
The samsung drivers work after all, after trying some different models from the same series (my exact model isn't there).
