There is no
of any kind in the extracted files, only a few executables none of which worked at the time I tried to install the driver, hence my wrong understanding the download was all there was needed.
Since then I found my hard disk drive is dying (I have a new one on order) and I tried the procedure again, apparently during a time my hard disk drive did not falter and the executable worked since this printer also works now. (I cannot remember precisely how many executables there is but they have tried to cover installation of printers and scanners and maybe the combination of both)
However, there is an annoying "feature" in this executabe in that Samsung is of the opinion that presenting to the prospective installer the "legalese" one line at a time was very smart, lines which each needs it own "Enter" and seem (like any legalese) to be never-ending. As one usually clicks "Enter" faster as these lines display in the expectation of a following clear indication of having reached the end you get caught by the lack of such indication as you click the last line which is a "disagree" option. You then have to restart the whole process with the only safe otion of reading every line to insure it does not contain an "Accept" or "Disagree" option.
This installer will add the driver for your printer to the list available to CUPS (and I anticipate other printing software) and you need to select it manually when you use CUPS (or other) to install the new printer. However this list is alphabetically sorted, an order which is not respected when the new driver is added as the first entry in the list which may give the impression "it did not work" if you search for it alphabetically.
