Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

S3 Sonicvibes Problems (Kernel 2.4.22)

When building a new kernel (2.4.22) I am having problems with my S3 Sonicvibes soundcard. The soundcard worked great a week ago on Debian Unstable bf2.4.18 kernel. I have compiled the kernel with both the driver version .31 from kernel 2.4.22 and with version .30 from kernel 2.4.18. I have also tried compiling the code in the kernel as well as a module in both cases. With every kernel I have the same error.

Error from dmesg:
sv: version v0.31 time 14:35:26 Sep 30 2003
PCI: Failed to allocate resource 7(0-1f) for 00:0d.0
sv: cannot allocate DDMA controller io ports

The card does exist in lspci:
00:0d.0 Multimedia audio controller: S3 Inc. SonicVibes

Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it? Thank you very much!

JohnQ
