s-video capture doesn't work

I am having trouble capturing s-video on my RedHat 9 system. I have a Viewcast Osprey 210 and am trying to run xawtv taking input through the s-video cable (it doesn't work in effecTV either). Instead of getting my video source, the default blue screen is displayed. I know my video source is ok because i can watch it through a projector. I know that the card works, because i can get the composite input to work in linux (on xawtv and effectv) and i can get both composite and s-video to work in windows (i dual boot with windows 2k). Is anyone else having simaliar problems? does anyone have any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Some details of my system:
RedHat 9 (duals boots into win 2k)
Viewcast Osprey 210 video capture card
bttv 7.x (unfortunatly i dont' have access to this machine right this second so i can't check the exact version number)

ATI Radeon 9700 pro
3.0 Ghz P4
ABIT IC7-G motherboard
1 GB RAM
240 GB mass storage
dvd reader
cd/dvd writer

Thank you very much for yoru help.
