Running multiple LCDs - best way with PCIe?

Hi,

I'm currently running a 6600GT on AGP with dual DVIs connected to 2 LCDs and a Elsa Synergy PCI to run a third monitor.

I'm looking to upgrade my system but not sure on the best option here.

If a mobo has SLI and therefore 2 slots for graphics cards, could I plug 2 cards in, each with dual DVI and run 4 monitors?

Or do I need a mobo with just 2 PCIe graphics slots but no SLI?

I'm not too bothered about SLI at the moment as I don't really do games, but it would be nice to have the option in the future. All I really want to do is run 4 LCDs and be able to get Berlyl/Compiz working OK with desktop stretched across all 4.

I'm just a little uncertain on how the PCIe/SLI works together?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Andy
