Question rtl8139c-abit kr7a/raid-mandrake 9.1 strange problem

Hi all,

I have a strange problem.
I have a rtl8239c based network card and an Abit kr7a/raid Motherboard.
In normal use, the computer works well and the LAN too without problems.
But when i try to copy a big file (> 400MB) using "winscp" from a windows client to my computer (with SSHD running), my computer freezes and blocks.
The only way to restart to work is rebooting it.

There are no LOGS to post. The kernel does not log anything.
The only strange thing is the message "spurious interrupt IQR 7" that
sometimes is logged. But it does not depend from the lan use.
It appears randomly.

The same problem with MDK9.0 and MDK9.1.
Any suggestion?

Patton.

What's the kernel with Mandy 9.1? Was it a 2.4.20rc? Also, which 8139 module, 8139cp or 8139too?

Cheers,

Well it should be kernel 2.4.21-pre4 patched by mandrake.
The installation kernel without modifications.
And the module is the 8139too.

I am a little confused then... the kernel hasn't got any major changes to 8139 since -pre4

The spurious interrupt thing is pretty common on a lot of boards that share IRQs, I see it a lot on my cheap ECS board, never seen anything bad happen from it.

From /proc/interrupts you can find out whether the NIC is sharing... and then assign around that in BIOS, or also it could be something buggy with sshd, which would be doubtful, but hey... does this only happen with winscp? have you got any other network services on the Mandy box open so you can try to recreate the issue with them?

No logs... this one is going to be fun to track down.

Cheers,

Finegan
