Angry Root, can I have my DVD drive please?


Hi,

For some reason my linux box will only let root accsess my DVD drive,

Here is my FSTAB:

# This file is edited by fstab-sync - see 'man fstab-sync' for details
LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/boot1 /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
LABEL=SWAP-hda2 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb /media/cdrom auto pamconsole,fscontext=system_u:object_r:removable_t,ro,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto pamconsole,fscontext=system_u:object_r:removable_t,exec,noauto,managed 0 0

I am using Fedora Core 3

Hi Ian_Hawdon,
Just change this line of fstab >
/dev/hdb /media/cdrom auto
TO
/dev/hdb /media/cdrom auto,user

Then any user can mount hdb disk.

Add the corresponding group to your user, I think FC sets up a multimedia group.

there should be some wizard to change roup in fedora. If you prefer the hardcore way, you could use "usermod -G your_group_to_add bob" (of course change the user with your and the group with the one you want to add your user into).
You probably want to change your user to the group that own the device (ls -l /dev/hdb ?)

If you run Kde, I think there is a program in:

start >> system
or:
start >> configuration

something like that... I'm not positive. Look around though, I do know Kde provides a nice little graphical program that is easy to understand once you look around a little bit.
