RocketRAID 2320 problem - Fedora 8

Hello,

I purchased a Highpoint RocketRAID 2320 which I successfully installed on Fedora 8. I have been using it without issue for over a month with a 4-drive RAID-5 setup. Recently I purchased a 5th hard drive, shut the computer down, and plugged the new drive in. When I restarted the computer I went into the RAID BIOS and it showed the new drive there. I initialized the new drive without issue.

Upon rebooting I received the following error:

special device /dev/sdb does not exist

Obviously my raid filesystem would not mount and the RAID config utility that ships with these cards can not connect to my Array.

I shut the computer down and removed the new drive thinking it might have caused the problem. Booting with my previously working configuration, I am still receiving the same error. Please help!

Brian

A word of advice check the device manufacturers website for the apropriate Linux driver as well as you distributions Hadr Ware Compatibility list for know issues with every peice of hard ware that you want to use with your distribution of choice.

I got my drivers from the manufacturer's website. They only provide precompiled drivers for Fedora 1-7 so I had to download the sourcecode and compile it myself. As I stated in my message, the RAID card and array worked flawlessly for over a month.

Anyone have any other ideas?
