RHEL4 isn't recognizing all my RAM

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me with a problem of RHEL4 not detecting all my RAM. When I boot up my server computer, it displays a warning that RHEL4 needs 256 mb ram to run as a supported configuration (only 181 detected).

I am running Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant) Kernel 2.6.9-5.ELsmp on an x86_64. I have a Dual Xeon processor (2.40) with 1gb of ram. When I check my BIOS settings, the System Memory = 1024 MB ECC DDR2

When I type in free -m at the control prompt, I get the following:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 181 180 0 0 1 36
-/+ buffers/cache 142 38
Swap: 8191 92 8099

So, how can I configure Red Hat to recognize all my memory? Any help would be aprreciated.

There is some option in Dell bios for Install Mode or something like that which limits the system to 181MB for installs which are unable to handle the full amount.

Double check the bios settings. Sorry I cant remember the exact option but that *may* be it.

Quick thought - is High Memory Support enabled in your kernel?
