RH9 Nvidia Hardware Acceleration Problems

I know there's a lot of talk about Nvida and OpenGL probs in this forum but I couldn't find anything that seemed to help my particular problem.

I'm trying to run an Nvidia GeForce 4 (32 MB) on my RH9 box. The nvidia driver installed w/out a hitch, and it really sped up the KDE OpenGL games and screensavers...however, I still get a pretty low FPS rate in Cube and glxgears (around 9 FPS). In the display dialogue, hardware acceleration is grayed over...it seems to me that this could be the problem.

Any ideas on how I could try to enable hardware acceleration on my card?

Thanks so much.

what does it say when you type :
glxinfo
in a terminal? (you only need to post like the first 5 lines)

and i have said it before and i'll say it again (this is also noted in the nvidia docs)
that if you have sucessfully installed the nvidia drivers, then you do have 3d accel.. and thats that ...
this sometimes happens (mainly in redhat) when the 3d box is grayed out, but that doesn't mean you don't have it ... if they are installed then you have it and it doesn't get any simpler than that ...

Its not _quite_ as simple as that. You also need to change the driver in your XF86Config file and make sure Load "glx" is uncommented.

thanks

Thanks all for the suggestions...openGL and hardware acceleration seem to be working now. I ran the check nv script, and it said i didn't have libGL.so, which was weird since I did a file search and foud it...apparently some symbolic links were broken, though. Didn't exactly know what that meant, but i deleted the broken links and tried to copy libGL.so into the their respective directories...well then X wouldn't start in KDE. GNOME opened fine, aparently rolling back to the orginal nv driver. libGL.so was nowhere to be found, and none of the openGL applications worked. I downloaded the nvidia driver, reinstalled, and now i get 1500 + fps rates! No idea what happened, but everything's working great!

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to post. I really appreciate it.
