RH 9 stalls detecting hardware with Audigy

I was using an SB Live 5.1 card on RH 9, using the ALSA drivers and kernel from Planet-CCRMA. I have replaced it with an Audigy 1. However, the boot process always stalls at the "checking for new hardware" stage. The PC is a Dell Optiplex 420. The card works with Win 98 and XP partitions.

Many people seem to be using this combination of kernel, OS and card without problems.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I got around this problem by temporarily switching to a different kernel. Kudzu ran, and the config changes were available to all other kernels.

It looks like this must be a problem with the Planet-CCRMA kernel, which is unfortunate since it's supposed to be an audio-optimised kernel.
