Restore GHOST image to new HD
 

I'm running FC4 with GRUB boot loader, and have been using GHOST to create images of the disk. The hard disk just died and I now need to rebuild!

After lots of searching on this forum, obviously Ghost + GRUB don't get along well. However, too late! I only have an image now, of my 80GB disk, with 4 partitions, booting using GRUB.

I am replacing the hard disk (80GB) with an identical size disk (80GB) but with different geometry. How do I make the system boot after I GHOST the image back?

I have a Knoppix CD I could boot, but I'm pretty sure I need to reset the MBR for GRUB and modify the fstab file for the new geometry.

Please help! How do I get my image up and running (without a complete reinstall).

You may or may not be able to get the restored image working. The first thing to do is to try to boot into your system using the FC4 rescue CD. You can use Knoppix but the FC4 rescue is a little easier. Then, assuming that you want to boot from hda, reinstall grub:
grub-install

I doubt that you have to do anything to /etc/fstab. Another area that you may run into problems is that your partition table may be screwed up.

How can I correct the partition table?

Ghost is *supposed* to handle the partition table intelligently when you restore an image. Haven't tried it yet with Linux, though.
