Restart in Linux hangs system

Hi there.
My laptop has serious issues with restarts. Shutdowns are perfect though.
A restart seems to occur as normal, but just before it would display the bios 'splash' screen, it hangs. The LCD turns black, (but lit), and the power button remains blue (on), but caps lock doesn't light up when I press it, etc.
I have to hold the power button till it turns off, then turn it on again.

The issue is non-existant in Windows.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you using ACPI or APM? I suggest you to try "the other one", maybe your laptop implementation of one of these power management protocol is buggy.
What's your laptop model

Sorry it took so long to reply. I have a Toshiba Satellite A70-RX1 (its Canadian). I should point out that its a Phoenix BIOS.
Im using ACPI, and in on Toshiba's user guide it says the laptop uses ACPI 2.0. Again, shutdowns are fine, its just the reboots.
Thanks!

You should try APM to see if it does any good. There is also some option you could activate in kernel if you wish top try a recompilation.

I'm having the exact same issue!

I also have a toshiba satellite and it hangs on restarts just before the splash screen as well. How do I get it to use APM?

thanx!:Pengy:
