Unhappy Rest Of HardDisk ?

Hello Everybody
Sure this is a great forum for newbie Linux users like me .
my question is very simple ... here's the story :
I installed Linux successefully on my only hard disk . the only problem faced me was that the rest of the hard disk is not accessable through Linux File System .
I still have Windows Xp installed , booting is completely smooth and easy.
I want to see my files and folders through Linux . Linux only sees its partition only .
Thnx in Advance.
Bye

Hi DJ. Glad you've got easy booting back + forth between Windows + Linux sorted. Viewing your Windows files under Linux is quite easy. What format is your Windows partition in though? It is most likely NTFS, in which case you should be able to:

mkdir /mnt/windows
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows

assuming that your Windows partition is hda1 (which is most likely the case). That is the simple way of mounting, which should automatically determine filetypes and such. Get back if that doesn't work. Most modern systems will happily determine filesystems and permissions for you, otherwise make another post here!

Good, glad you got it sorted! FAT makes it much easier reading + writing stuff back to the Windows disk as NTFS can cause security permissions to kick in meaning you can't write data back from Linux.

Least it's all working now. Have fun!
