Resolution problems with dell e151fpb monitor.

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I just downloaded and installed Fedora Core 1 a few days ago.(My first linux distro). I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and a Dell E151fpb flat panel monitor. X server will not load with Thousands or millions of colors when the resolution is set above 640x480. I have tried just setting my monitor to a generic 1024x768, but that doesn't work either. Any ideas would be great.

Thanks,
First time linux user Matt

Matt, did you ever get any help with this problem?
I am having the same problem with Suse 9.0. I found one link that said Intel had a linux driver for the 845 graphics chip set, but I haven't got it to work yet.

http://www.intel.com/support/graphic...x/graphics.htm

However, continuing to search on this forum, I found the answer!!!
The Dell BIOS defaults to 1 meg allocated to video buffer. (under
integrated devices) Change it to 8 meg and your E151fpb will work!
In Suse I still had to manually set the monitor parameters.
FYI they are: Horiz scan 31kHz to 60 kHz, Vertical scan 56 Hz to 75 Hz,
Optimal preset resolution 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz, Screen dimensions
horiz 11.9 in (304 mm) Vert 8.9 in (228 mm).
