Resolution problems at installation

Well yes I'm new to Linux. A friend brought me this 9.3 professional version of Suse and I tried to install it but the problem is that as soon as the installation begins, the monitor goes crap. It's a really old monitor that only goes up to 800x600 and Suse, after the first splash screen is probably changing resolution to something higher that cannot be displayed. So everything goes like dots and dashes.
Anyone knows how I can make this thing stick to 800x600 resolution for installation and after that too?

Cheers peeps I hope I wont have to buy a new monitor only to see what this linux thing looks like

Problem Solved

Okey guys you can forget about this. I figured it out. Was not that difficult actually. Must be my Microsoft Background
Sorry to bother the forum with this matter.
In case anyones else falls in this simple problem, key F2 and change the resolution to 800x600.

Easy

Thanks again anyway.

Well, you could always download a Live CD, like the Kubuntu Live CD, and if you put the Live CD into your computer and reboot, you can see what Linux looks like and it doesn't do anything to your currently installed Operating System!

But, if you're completely sure that you want to erase your hard drive and put SUSE on it, then you could always do the "Text Installation" mode. That runs at a resolution of something like 640 x 480, so you should be fine with that. Text mode is not too scary, just make sure you choose the "Automatically Partition Hard Drive" option unless you have read up on manually partitioning the hard drive, because it can be quite confusing. Good luck, and welcome to LQ!

edit: ah..you solved it...welcome to LQ anyway!
