Replaced a Sound Card (ESS) and now no sound under Slackware

My old sound card didnt work (it is on-board) so i looked throught my stuff and found an old, but working sound card (ESS1938). I tested it under Windows 98, and it worked, I am however a Linux noob and I don't know how to install this 'new' hardware on my slackware. Someine please point me in the right direction.

Ah, the lovely ESS1938. I had one of those... ah... way back when I used Windows 95 on a pentium 120Mhz back in 1996 I believe.

And as I recall.. worked beautifully with linux. First try, no prob, even though back then you had to type snd-config and randomly pick cards that might work :)

Well. Go to the alsa-project.org homepage, get the drivers, and follow the instructions. not sure what else you expected to hear.
