removing a raid0 disk

I'm still relatively new to Linux, and I'm currently running FC2 x86_64. I've got software RAID across 3 old Quantum fireballs. My boot partitions are RAID1, and swap/root is RAID0. For some reason the first drive in the array (hddb) has failed. My CD drive and hddb is on the same channel (primary). I'm getting I/O errors on my cd drive, and after linux boots, hddb is never even mounted. I can't boot FC2 x86_64 without hddb though. I was wondering if there's a way to recover hddb, or just replace it with another Fireball i've got. I can give you cdrecord errors, mount errors, or dmesg if it would help.

Using raid0 means that you will depend on backups for recovery.

However, given that both the drive and the cdrom are having errors, please try replacing the IDE cable. The controller and cable are common to both devices and either could be the cause of the problems.

I was aware that RAID0 means no mirroring, but why does everything still work? hddb is in my raidtab and everything? The only programs that don't work are cdrecord, mount, and ls. I'll go ahead and try a new ribbon cable.

*edit* tried a new ribbon cable, same problem. In mail i found a few messages stating the following:
Code:
WARNING: Kernel Errors Present
Class: internal Software error...: 68 Time(s)
   end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector...: 36 Time(s)
   end_request: I/O error, dev hdd, sector...: 53 Time(s)
