redhat9 used to detect my modem, now it doesnt

hi! good day!

my problem is that my redhat9 does not detect my modem. it used to work before, but when i reformated my computer and reinstalled redhat9, it just wont detect my modem. i have a D-Link external modem i lost the manual but last time i used it with redhat9 it had no problem. it was automatically detected by redhat. i dunno what happened this time. hope you guys could help. and do tell me if you need clarification or additional infos.

thanks!

well yes i need some more details which are as follow
1. does your modem worked before? (connect to internet)
2. does you RH9 automatically detected your modem before or you manually compiled the kernel for it?
3. Did u detected your modem before by using Kppp?

i am very sorry for the late reply. i have only one computer and this happend that is why i have to go find a place to rent a computer to use. thank you for your kindness sir!

1. yes it worked perfectly i had many downloads before reinstalling my redhat9.

2. im a newbie in linux i still dont know how to recompile a kernel. i am interested tho

3. i do not know how to detect my modem. the thing i did was to use the redhat internet configuration wizard and with my previous installation, it detected my modem. but now, after i reinstall redhat, it did not detect my modem. kppp does not work with my isp because they have this proxy server that does not go with the PAP/CHAP or stuff like that. what i do to connect to the internet is the redhat network control and i activate my connection.

thank you for your time sir! am hoping for your reply. more power! thaks again!

you must have serial modem or a modem that's external connection using the serial port.
so if it's not broken, then it must work in linux.
please post the output of "lspci -v" and "dmesg" as root which means you want to login as root first, then execute these commands in the terminal.
also, please post the output of "setserial -a /dev/ttyS[1-5]"
