REDHAT 9 SMP and more than 4GB RAM

I am running redhat9 kernel 2.4.18-14smp. I assumed it could handle more than 4GB RAM but It doesnt seem to. Is it possible to make this work without recompiling.

Thanks!!!

Hey,
I am facing a similar situation.. I am developing my own kernel which supports SMP but its facing a problem when RAM is more than 4GB. refer thread (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=578678)
What is happening exactly? Does your system boot-up and show only 4GB memory? Or does it show only one processor?

If you have a 32-bit processor, you can only directly address 4MB of RAM. (2^32, to be precise)

Dunno if you guys noticed, but this thread is from April 2004, by which time RH9 was already out of date...

If you are having problems with it akshayj29, I'd highly recommend trying something newer, like, say, Fedora Core 4. ;)
