Talking Redhat 9 on Dell Inspiron 5000: Internal Modem is not working

Just installed Redhat on my laptop and all is looking good. I just can't get the internal modem to work.

when I do a cat /proc/pci|more, I get this:

__________________________________________________
Communication controller: Lucent Microelectronics WinModem 56k (rev 1).
IRQ 5.
Master Capable. No bursts. Min Gnt=252.Max Lat=14.
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xfc000000 [0xfc0000ff].
I/O at 0x1080 [0x1087].
I/O at 0x1800 [0x18ff].
Bus 1, device 0, function 0:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but when i run the setserial command I get:

---------------------------------------------------------------
[root@nkosi root]# setserial /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4

----------------------------------------------------------------

From this I can tell the modem is suppossed to use IRQ 5 but the setserial seems to think the internal modem is on IRQ 4 . Also the memory address used by both are not the same..

I have tried the PCMCIA Howto but could not find a way to get it to use IRQ 5.

Consequently , when I try dialing out.
It says initializing modem and just stays there.

Any one have any ideas how I can get this to work? HELP please.

Kofi.

Talking Can I sneak a peak at your XF86Config?

I am trying to get 9 installed on my 5000e, though a different machine getting a look at your XF86config settings may steer me in the right direction.

Thanks
