RedHat 9 not recognizing internal modem

I have just finished installing RedHat 9. There is an internal modem installed in the pc. I have set the OS loading to be dual. When I switch to Windows and try dialing up the modem for internet connection, it works fine. But when I switch to my lovely RedHat 9 Linux, and load the Internet Connection Wizard(sounds something like that i guess) to add a modem connection with the details of my username, password, ISP details and click the "Activate" button, there doesn't seem to be any response. By right it should start dialing, and the dialing tone should be heard. No sound or anything happens. I typed 'ifconfig' to check if there is an IP for PPP interface. Nothing is there. I have added the dns name for my ISP in the /etc/resolv.conf file. But even the initial effort of dialing through the modem doesn't take place.

Any clues, tips to help me out with this. I am so dumbfounded. Please help me out.

Lost Linux Soul.

Usually most internal modems are winmodems and require drivers to be loaded as modules, before you can start to configure your connection. If this is the case have a look at linmodems.org,for the driver for your particular modem.
