Exclamation Redhat 9 and AMD Athlon 64 (FX)

This is just a quick one

I'm planning to get an AMD Athlon 64 (or FX) for my home server, just wondering whether the kernel that came with Redhat 9 (2.4.20-8) supports it or do I need to upgrade the kernel to at least 2.6 in order to gain full use of the 64-bit architecture?

It should run, but it will be 32bit until you recompile - and 2.6.x would be better for x86-64.

Got it... cheers, mate!

I'm having kernel-phobias since I ran into a lot of problems trying to compile kernels 2.6 and above

Tried it without RAID and the main problems were USB support... when I tried it with RAID I got "raid1 module not found" after I fixed that i get "kernel panics"! haha

Well, just have to keep on trying~ Thanks for replying
