Redhat 7.3 X server problems

I have a Compaq Presario 4824. I put Red Hat 7.3 on it, during the install, the graphics look great. When I reboot, the graphics look terrible. There are 3 lines running vertically across the screen(left side, middle, and right side), the cursor has a box about 3 times the cursor size to the left of the cursor, and when i scroll, it has these strange lines that make it impossible to read the selections. I tried the S3 Virge Generic server that Red Hat autoprobes, i tried the S3 Virge Generic Server that Compaq says that the video card is, I tried all of the resolutions and color numbers. I can't figure it out. Please help.

Have you tried configuring X Uber-manually with /usr/X11/bin/xf86config.

RH was probably using something framebuffer oriented for the install... I really should puzzle that out one day, and the probed version faltered on some bit, which is usually the case with anything exotic (Compaq makes some things very strange).

Cheers,

Yes, I tried to use XF86Config, same result. I tried Caldera 3.1 Workstation, i couldn't even get setup to run with correct graphics, i tried a copy of Corel Linux i had sitting around and it did the same as RH7.3.

Never mind. I got a newer and better computer to put Linux on and it works fine.
