you ARE aware that rhel 5.3 is VERY OLD
it is not even the current in the OLD legacy ( hardware/software) 5 series
RHEL 5.11 is the current in the 5 series
as per redhat the major versions of software was LOCKED right before 5.0 was released ( April of 2007 )
so there really is NO support for hardware designed and created AFTER 2007
if this usb whfi dongle did not exist 8 years ago
there really will be no support on it in the older legacy support OS
so
install RHEL7.1 and buy the required support contract
As John VV has indicated, this adapter is not supported by this version of Red Hat. As mentioned here, version 5.3 was first released in January, 2009 (kernel version 2.6.18-128) while the first mention of this adapter in the kernel was with version 2.6.39 in May, 2011, as seen here.
It may be possible to compile and install the Realtek driver here but I'm guessing it might be easier to upgrade to a more recent version of Red Hat, if that would not affect system performance. If none of those two options will work, then you could purchase an older adapter that would be compatible with 5.3, if you want to keep using the same computer.
Regards...

Reason: Correction.
Wow, I had completely forgotten that I had a separate account on LQ, created years ago! I forgot the "71" in my username but it logged in anyway. I didn't notice anything amiss until I posted the above information and noticed the "RedHat 7.2." under "distribution."
