Red Hat 8.0 post kernel upgrade Nforce LAN failure
I am new to Linux (I began early June of this year).
I am running Red Hat 8.0, and I recently upgraded the kernel to 2.4.20-18.8. Now, my Nforce chipset onboard LAN doesn't work. It did work before I upgraded the kernel. I installed the Nvidia rpm for upgraded kernel, but to no avail. It is listed under the "Hardware" tab in "Network", but when I attempt to activate my connection, it says simply: "Cannot Activate Network Device eth0" And every time I boot up, I get a reply saying that the activation of network device eth0 is delayed, because it cannot find the device. I'll say this again: I did have the net working before I upgraded the kernel. (I can't go back to the previous kernel because it mysteriously dissappeared. When I try to boot it it shows me what I have in my grub.conf for it, and says it can't find the kernel). Also note that the only way I have to transfer files to my computer is on a floppy - because my net card is down, and my smart media card reader is not supported in Linux. |
